Atualmente, os substitutos \u00f3sseos sint\u00e9ticos t\u00eam ganhado maior destaque para abordagens terap\u00eauticas em regenera\u00e7\u00e3o tecidual, principalmente em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos outros substitutos de enxertos \u00f3sseos (hom\u00f3genos e heter\u00f3genos). Os sint\u00e9ticos v\u00eam crescendo \u00e0 medida que exig\u00eancias regulat\u00f3rias aumentaram para o uso destes tipos enxertos. O mercado para os substitutos de enxertos \u00f3sseos sint\u00e9ticos deve crescer a uma taxa anual de 20,2% at\u00e9 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Os enxertos \u00f3sseos s\u00e3o classificados de acordo com a sua origem, como aut\u00f3genos, hom\u00f3genos, heter\u00f3genos ou alopl\u00e1sticos (sint\u00e9ticos). Contudo, essas limita\u00e7\u00f5es ressaltam cada vez mais a necessidade de desenvolvimento de novos biomateriais sint\u00e9ticos para suprir a crescente demanda do mercado, visto que, este tipo de biomaterial atende a todas as desvantagens dos tipos de enxertos relacionados acima.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mas o que s\u00e3o biomateriais sint\u00e9ticos?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Entende-se por biomaterial sint\u00e9tico qualquer subst\u00e2ncia ou combina\u00e7\u00e3o de subst\u00e2ncias produzidas em laborat\u00f3rio, que n\u00e3o sejam drogas ou f\u00e1rmacos, as quais interagem diretamente com sistemas biol\u00f3gicos. Os biomateriais sint\u00e9ticos utilizados como enxertos ou substitutos do tecido \u00f3sseo devem possuir caracter\u00edsticas espec\u00edficas como biocompatibilidade, bioatividade, degradabilidade\/reabsor\u00e7\u00e3o e osteocondu\u00e7\u00e3o (capacidade de agir como transportador\/guia para as c\u00e9lulas \u00f3sseas (osteoblastos) migrarem at\u00e9 o local a ser reparado. Um dos maiores desafios atuais da engenharia tecidual \u00e9 o desenvolvimento de biomateriais de qualidade em escala industrial, e tudo indica que o segredo para o sucesso nesse cen\u00e1rio \u00e9 a inova\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Existem diversos tipos de biomateriais, substitutos \u00f3sseos sint\u00e9ticos, j\u00e1 comercializados, eles variam n\u00e3o somente quanto a origem, como tamb\u00e9m quanto a composi\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica (met\u00e1licos, cer\u00e2micos ou polim\u00e9ricos) e a forma de apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o (blocos, gr\u00e2nulos, injet\u00e1veis, esponjas porosas e outros). Os biomateriais a base de biocer\u00e2micas se destacam como substitutos sint\u00e9ticos devido \u00e0 semelhan\u00e7a estrutural a por\u00e7\u00e3o inorg\u00e2nica do osso humano, al\u00e9m das excelentes propriedades biol\u00f3gicas e f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicas.
